Aligning Individuals to their Strenghts

July 13, 2006 by Milo Riano

Recently I overheard a team lead telling his subordinates she doesn’t care how it is done as long as the job gets done. Having knowledge on their project scope, I believe people are having a hard time delivering their tasks because they came from different backgrounds and are not yet fit for such undertakings. I have heard this comment and mentality so many times over from superiors who I view as single minded arrogant individuals who portray the brute force finish it at all cost mentality.

These kinds of people don’t earn any respect from me and I would feel sorry for the subordinates for putting up with such an inferior leader.

It is important that leaders should care and learn how their people do things which give them an understanding if they are performing at the most efficient and productive manner. The only problem is when a leader is incompetent and came from a totally different background that makes him incapable of going at great lengths to understand his people. Still, he should put the effort to understand their work and processes.

By learning how things work they would be able to align people’s strength to tasks at hand and yield maximum output with less effort while keeping the person happy and far from burnt out.
