Is your boss a control freak?

March 19, 2006 by admin

Control freaks at work are anxious.  Nobody can do it as well as them, so if they monitor and instruct at every stage during the process so that they can get the outcome they are looking for.

Feel sorry for them, it must be absolutely exausting trying to control evey outcome and every interaction.

My boss at the momet is verging on control freak.  Delegations to calendars, tasks, dailing briefings, and a desire to see the team’s work continually wearing thin.

What you can do.

1. Approach the situation with sympathy. this is less about you and more about them

2. Volunteer enough information to them to ensure comfort, aure intially it is pandering to them but volunteering it upfront does seem to take the edge off

3, If you have an issue on the go, take charge, run them through it but advise what you propse to do – never do this briefing without a plan

4. On occassion, on less important issues – seek the control freaks advice – they will love it

5. Hang in there – mostly things will improve over time.  If they don’t you will find a way to live with it.
