Leadership on and off the field?

February 22, 2006 by admin

A big scandal in Australian Rules Football of Late has been the unfortuante dramas of Ben Cousins, captain of the West Coast Eagles.

Ben Cousins abandoned his Mercedes 4wd on a highway, just 50 metres before a booze bus, and legged it evading police, and refusing to answer police queries about the incident.

Ben was forced to resign the captaincy of the club he loves because of the backlash.

SO the question is – setting aside Ben’s issues as a role model, do all leaders have a resposibility to uphold the principles they would model in the work place/community in their own private lives.

Its an interesting issue isnt it?

I would argue that to be an authentic leader, you must be consistent in the principles you seek to instill in your team in your private life as well.
