I don't disagree with you, Chris, but I'm not sure it would have made that big a difference. Americans don't fund political campaigns, special interests do. You can look at the banking mess or health care to see how much impact "the people" have.

Hi Miki,

I agree with this statement: All climate actions have been stopped by the political Right or the disorganized Left. Hence my writing on the German solar blog that I am pessimistic about the action this government is willing to take. A question of priorities!

However, I do believe it is also that the American ppl have not embraced the need for change regarding this issue at the same level and in the same way German and many other citizens of this world have.

Hi Chris and Rudi, I'd like to point tout that in many ways it doesn't really matter what the general population wants. All climate actions have been stopped by the political Right or the disorganized Left, not to mention the power in this country of special interest lobbyests. Climate legislation doesn't stand much chance for radical improvement any more than health care does.

Hi Rudi :)

Thank you very much for responding to my post. Although you left a comment on this water url, I actually think you meant to leave your response on the "German solar" url.

In regards to the technology not being exclusively American, I only point to the fact that America invented PV cells.

But Rudi, I completely agree with you regarding the desires and priorities of the two groups of citizens. I believe what is lacking here is the volition to move away from the status quo. We enjoy our luxuries and really don't want to have to think about the consequences to the environment, ourselves and above all other people sharing the planet with us.

Please also look at my response in the solar post url to get a full picture of how I feel about implementing the German incentives:

I refer to the sentence "dark, rainy Germany used US-invented technology to become a global solar leader". First of all Germany is not so dark, we get quite some rain that is true but there is also lots of Sun (less than Florida or California though). And second I am not so sure that it is all US-invented technology. There are quite some high-tech companies outside the US ... But I think the main difference between the US and Germany is in the heads of the people. I guess in Germany more ppl want clean energy and the government just follows this to get elected.
