Less control, better leadership

Pegasus communications has an intereting interview with Iva Wilson.

Wilson is famous for what she terms as collaborative leadership.

Empowerment is a big buzz word at the moment, I must hear it in management meetings every day of the week.  What it means for manages is that we must allow our staff to learn by themselves, by doing, including allowing them to make mistakes.

Tough isnt it.  A good manager is responsible for the team, including mistakes.  It takes a brave leader to truly be collaborative but as shown by Wilson’s track record the payoff is worth it.  Provided you have the upper management support to wear the intial errors a leadership style as open as this will bring.
