Rules for Leadership

October 25, 2005 by admin

Mindy Herman, President and CEO of E! Networks, in 2003 outlined eight building blocks to business leadership.

They’re directed mainly to women in business, but they apply to anyone, anywhere, who wants to be able to make a difference through leadership. Men, women — business, not-for-profits, volunteer groups — all could use these great hints.

I have noticed that many would-be leaders start and stop with the first two: get in the door (even if it’s a step backwards) and work hard. While you’re not going to be recognized as a leader in an organization if you don’t do those two, you can’t stop there.

Become known, speak up, work on shared goals — these and the other steps are all good advice for would-be leaders and those leaders who want to increase their impact.
