Swallow Your Pride and Admit your Weaknesses
October 28, 2006 by Milo Riano
I admire senior people I have worked in the past who have swallowed their pride and told the team their weakness and inability to accomplish certain tasks especially when they were relied upon for guidance. It takes a certain degree of confidence and humility to raise the white flag and disappoint junior members of the team. It takes higher level of humility to ask your team members to teach and help you out in certain tasks that you were supposed to accomplish.
I have been in those situations myself and I can tell how difficult it was when younger people were the ones helping you out and at the same time you were the one evaluating them for their capability. Nevertheless, these things happen and one should keep in mind the greater interest of the project and of the organization. We are supposed to execute everything that people below us can; but that doesn’t happen all the time and it would be best to admit your weaknesses rather than put the project deliverables at risk.
