Leadership’s Future: Visions Trump Values
November 12, 2009 by Miki Saxon
Raising kids is about teaching values, among other things, but kids learn by watching more than by listening. “Do as I say, not as I do” just doesn’t fly these days.
Cheating is not only a good example, it’s a global one.
Everyone knows that cheating is wrong, yet in US surveys 64% of high school students say they have cheated, while 84% of undergraduate business students and a whopping 56% of MBA students also admit to cheating. Not only is cheating prevalent, parental action often condones it.
Since many of these same parents are leaders in the workplace, the results of a …read more
Leadership’s Future: Parents Prove They’re Culprits
June 11, 2009 by Miki Saxon
Last week I wrote that it seemed that change was in the wind for education and parental attitudes that have produced millions of poorly educated and entitled young people.
But it looks as if parents are still in the forefront of teaching their kids that there is no accountability and no consequences for actions such as cheating.
At Ohio’s Centerburg High, in the heartland of our country where, we are constantly told, ethics are at their highest, “so many of the senior class either cheated on final exams or knew about the cheating but failed to report it that district officials cancelled …read more
Taking Stock For Your Tombstone
June 1, 2009 by Miki Saxon
What do you think about when you take stock of your life? What do you strive for? What makes you feel successful?

What I’m about to write is NOT a judgment call—having been brought up in a judgmental family I don’t judge. Sure, I have opinions, we all do, but I don’t judge. The most I can say is “X isn’t right for me, but Y is.”

Quotable Quotes: Ethics And Business
March 22, 2009 by Miki Saxon
Considering the business news for the last decade the title of this week’s quotes is more of an oxymoron.
And, IMCO (in my cynical opinion), it’s not over yet. I think more schemes, more unethical if not downright illegal actions and a whole lot more stupidity are going to surface globally before we get out of this tunnel.
With that in mind I offer up these insights to the human psyche.
There are two levers to set a man in motion, fear and self-interest. –Napoleon Bonaparte (He should know.)
Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most …read more
Where does religion fit?
September 8, 2008 by Miki Saxon
Last week Kristen King asked Should Religion Be Part of Your Brand? She said “I wish companies would keep their religious views to themselves…[it's] unprofessional and it makes me angry.”
It makes me more than angry.
Kristen used Covenant Transport and a design element on their truck that says “It Is Not A Choice It Is A Child” as her example (read her post, I’m not going to repeat it all here).
One of the comments said, “To try to dictate that I should not stand up for the rights of human beings is tyrannical… Would you want to work with a practicing …read more
