When the Leader is Down Look for Your Teammates
The leader is always expected to stand tall; but as humans, we are not always as tall and strong as people perceive as to be. I am sure all of us has been in that situation but that doesn’t mean we have to show our team how messed up we are. It is very important to remain focus and conscious about our role of continuously providing the leadership for the team.
What to do during these situations?
This depends on a case to case basis. If the leader has the ability and means to ride it out then it is best to stay with the team as long as you can still function and do your job well. In case the quality of your output goes a notch down, don’t feel bad because you are only human and things will eventually get back to normal.
In my case, what I did was to temporarily delegate tasks which I felt I could not accomplish at a level expected from me because of my current situation. On the positive side, this gave other people the chance to take on more tasks, grow and prove they are capable of taking it to the next level.
In another case, when a leader could not ride it out with the team anymore, I would suggest the leader seriously seek out advice from appropriate people and see if they could get you help and such.
Conclusion
The team get their motivation and inspiration from their leader; but sometimes, leaders can get their motivation and inspiration from their teammates.
